Parish Councillor Qualifications

A person is qualified to be elected or co-opted as a Parish Councillor if they:

Are a British citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a qualifying EU citizen
Are aged 18 or over
Are a local government elector for the parish or
Have, during the whole of the previous 12 months:
- Occupied land or premises in the parish as owner or tenant, or
- Resided in the parish or within 4.8km of it, or
- Had their principal or only place of work in the parish
Are not disqualified under section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972
